Pilot your success with our guest speaker, Marthie Hauptfleisch at Avontuur Business Club

What is success?

Pele said: “Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.”
On 14 June Marthie Hauptfleisch is going to present a workshop called “Pilot Your Success”.

The workshop will include an easy-to-use business plan and brainstorming about what YOU want to do, and what talents and blessings you want to share with your friends, family and the world.

The business plan will focus on aspects such as leadership styles, friends and family, personal growth, career, health and money, etc.

Start in 2017 with the right focus – become part of the circle of motivated people who want to make the world a better place. Become inspired and empowered to passionately pursue your purpose! Like Zig Ziglar had said: “Success means doing the best we can with what we have. Success is the doing, not the getting; in the trying, not the triumph. Success is a personal standard, reaching for the highest that is in us, becoming all that we can be.”

You can contact Marthie at 083 767 2701 or

From Suspect to Success, our topic for May Breakfast Club at Avontuur with Lance Brown.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Financial Management through University of South Africa and is now a tax consultant for one of the world’s leading consulting firms. Lance is an author of a book titled: “The ‘Driver’ of Change” which is aimed at inspiring employees to find opportunities within their organizations.

In his talk he will explain how you can create opportunities, instead of waiting for them to happen.

Exciting news about our Restaurant!

We are excited to share our news with you!

Owner/chefs of the Avontuur Estate Restaurant Melanie Paltoglou and Zunia Boucher-Myers have been nominated by Margaret Hirsch in the Women in Business Achiever Cape Regional Competition!!

Here is a little bit of info on these two ladies;

Both Melanie and Zunia are originally from Johannesburg.

Melanie is a qualified midwife and owned a bustling restaurant in Observatory for seven years. She has been responsible for the opening Straightway Head Hotel and Willowbrook Lodge, managed the Burgundy in Hermanus, was executive chef at Erinvale golf club and sous chef at Erinvale hotel, and  is hands on with front of house, cheffing and training and mentoring of the staff at Avontuur.

Zunia is a fine artist and photographer with a passion for people and desserts! She has worked as the pastry chef at the Peninsula Bay hotel as well as the pastry chef at Erinvale golf course and hotel, managed the Rose Terrace at Vergelegen and worked as a chef in the film industry catering for 300 people a day in Namibia.
Her passion for people and information sees her sourcing the best speakers for the Business Breakfast Club which runs monthly and has been running for twelve years. Her love for photography is self evident in the images that are on social media and their website.

Our chefs journey began in 1999 when they met and became friends and soon after started working together. Melanie as the executive chef at Erinvale golf club and later Zunia as the pastry chef.

Not long after, the late Tony Taberer approached Melanie to come and look at Avontuur to see if it was possible to create a restaurant on the estate.

And as they say in the movies, the rest is history.

With a 20K loan from Melanie’s Mother the two started out with a skeleton staff and a great deal of grit and determination.

With dedicated staff, some of whom have been with them from day one and a loyal patronage they will celebrate fifteen years of partnership in  November, with many happy memories, some tears and many friends forged along the way!

We hope you will join them at the Margaret Hirsch Gala dinner to celebrate. 🙂

‘Embracing your uniqueness – being a platypus in a world full of ducks’; our Business Club topic this April 2017

From the time we are born, we are being put into boxes of expected behaviour. The boxes encompass our whole being and almost everything we do, from the way we dress to the way we wear our hair. It is cultural, based on our sex, based on our age, based on our religion, based on who knows what else. Boxes inside boxes upon boxes, all filled with ways in which we should think and be and act.
But what would happen if you could give yourself the space to live your life, and to be who you actually are? Not this construct of other people’s thoughts, this poor shrivelled thing, cowering inside a tower of boxes, shrinking yourself to fit others’ expectations and ideas of who and what you should be, think, say and do?

Melanie Britz is the author of the self-help memoir Dive in: Unlocking happiness and miracles by exploring the hidden parts of us and the universe we live in. This wide-ranging conversation with her 20-year old self is all about a journey in emotional mastery, understanding the world and her purpose in it better and moving into a boxless space of self-love and self-acceptance. It is filled with lessons, wisdom and practical tools that has a wide application for us all.
An ex-journalist and newspaper newseditor, Melanie is currently working as a property strategist with leading Somerset West estate agency, Harcourts Platinum, by day. During non-office hours though, her calling and nature as a writer/spiritual storyteller emerges.

Her website is a platform for people to share their wisdom and lessons with their own younger selves and she recently published Fabulous 365, a collection of affirmations, reflections and inspirations to make 2017 our best year yet.

Creativity in all aspects of your buisness, our Business Club theme this March

How to cultivate a creative mindset to grow all aspects of your business .
We often think of creativity only in relation to what we perceive as the “Creative Arts”. In other words, we think that being creative is only for people who pursue creative careers such as authors, artists, actors or musicians.

This is not true. We are all creative, simply by virtue of being human. And embracing your creativity will enhance your quality of life and make you a better businessperson.
Approaching challenges within your business in creative ways can be hugely helpful in getting a different perspective and being able to overcome challenges. In this presentation, Liesl van der Hoven will share her own story of how she realised she had to approach ALL aspects of her business with a creative mindset. She will also equip you with tools that you will be able to use to get your creative juices flowing in any area of your business and life.

Liesl van der Hoven has made it her mission to create toys and decor that are beautiful to look at, stimulating to creative young minds and safe and robust enough for children to play with. Her products are sold and shipped all over the world from her online shop called Fairy Caravan.
Every single Fairy Caravan product starts off as one of Liesl’s hand-drawn illustrations on paper. Her illustrations are then printed on fabric and turned into three-dimensional toys and dolls – characters that can become ‘real’ for children. Liesl also writes stories about each character she creates. She believes that these stories help children to form an emotional connection with the characters.
Liesl has a Master’s degree in Philosophy from Stellenbosch University and has also studied Graphic Design and completed several courses in children’s book illustration.
She firmly believes that all humans are creative and that we need to nurture this quality – especially in children – as we need creativity to navigate the ever-changing world we live in.

‘What is ‘The Blockchain’ and what it means to you as an entrepreneur’

The Fourth Industrial Revolution is characterised by a fusion of technologies that are blurring the lines between the physical, digital, and biological spheres. These developments will inevitably result in a lot of automation and job losses. James aims to educate people on new technologies such as Bitcoin and Blockchain and to help them understand what they can do to prepare for these changes that will be affecting us all.

James’ passion for education and technology has led him and his team to start Leaderless – a disruptive education platform aimed at putting the power back into the hands of South Africans. James is the Chief Disruptor at Leaderless and his greatest goal and biggest concern is to ensure that there is a balance between the digital world and the environment we live in.

Blogging for Business- 10 things you can do RIGHT NOW to leverage your website.

Blogging for Business – 10 Things you can do Right Now to leverage your website as a marketing tool.
It will be a practical talk (do this, click here, install this etc.) with the reasoning and my experience as to how and WHY it works.

Cindy Page; Professional blogger and content marketing consultant at Word of Mouth Cape Town.
Cindi says, ” I launched Word of Mouth Cape Town because I believe the best form of advertising is still one person sharing their experience with another. Not too long ago we called that “word of mouth” and it happened around the braai or in a real face to face context. Now-a-days we still share things by word of mouth, but it happens via online platforms. And if a business wants to be able to take advantage of modern day word of mouth advertising they have to invest on their online presence and give their audience something to share on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. That’s where the value of content and your business blog comes into play.”

What is content marketing?
In a nutshell, content marketing is about utilising the internet’s most valuable commodity to promote your business, namely: information. The more information your provide about your business online, the more credibility you gain with any prospects you may be interested in what you have to offer. And best way to get the information about your concern out there is by having a website with an effective blog providing valuable content and integrating that with the relevant social media platforms to reach as many people as possible.
Does your business have a website with an active blog? Can it improve? Is it giving you exposure? Is it bringing you potential business?
Using your blog as a content marketing strategy is the answer to achieving results in all of the above. Want to find out how to get started?
Join me at Avontuur’s November Breakfast Club where I will be giving away practical tips on how you can get more exposure for your business by leveraging your existing website.
