Easter is the perfect time in the Winelands

We love this time of the year in the Boland with cooler temperatures (usually) and a relaxing Easter long weekend ahead of us.  We wish you and your family a wonderful Easter time together, but if you’re looking for a bit of a treat, the Avontuur Estate Restaurant and Tasting Room is open from Saturday to Monday.

We are taking a break ourselves on Good Friday and the Estate will be closed, but we’re back in full swing from then on.

If you’re on the roads travel safely and we hope to see you soon.

Gauteng yearling sales set for April and May.

April and May will see lots of action on the yearling sale front with two important events coming up in April and early May respectively.  For more details on our yearlings, click through to our Sale pages.

Artisinal confectionary tasting a hit!

The tasting room started with a new confectionary pairing last week and have partnered up with local artisinal producer Basilei, who’s put together a classy selection box of nougat and fudge to pair with 5 Avontuur wines.

At R80 pp this is a stunning treat and something different to do when tasting in the area.

Although bookings aren’t  necessary and the tasting is available whenever the tasting room is open, it is preferable to phone or email ahead just to make sure, especially if you are a group of friends.  Contact Ella or Marcelle at 021 855-3450 or winery@avontuurestate.co.za to organise your pairing experience.

Harvest 2017 more than halfway

With the grape harvest moving along swiftly at the moment after a slightly later start than in 2016, our winemaker Jan van Rooyen and his team are working at top speed to ensure the grapes are brought in safely and in great condition.

The last bit of Viognier 2017 being received at the cellar.

“We finished off the white varietals on Friday with Viognier , and all the Pinotage is in the cellar as well. The Pinot Noir is safely brought in with the Minelli selection already in barrel, said Jan.  “Overall the harvest is excellent with healthy grapes and good volumes in spite of the drought.”

It’s Valentine’s the whole of Feb!

We just love Valentine’s month and we’re planning lots of fun and frisky ways to celebrate it with you!

The whole month of Feb sees us offering a 2-pack of our newest releases in the tasting room for only R200, instead of the usual R250.  So, what can you grab for that price?  It’s a bottle of the Pinot Noir/Chardonnay 2016 in the exciting new Avontuur Estate livery as well as the newly released Minelli Pinot Noir Reserve 2012, which already sports a few medals, after being awarded in some competitions last year.

Over the Valentine’s period from Friday, 10 February right up to the end of Valentine’s day on the 14th, you can join us in the tasting room for a special pairing of a glass of MCC Rose and 3 nougats at only R35 per pairing. Over the same period, we’re offering 3 bottles of our Luna de Miel (means “honeymoon” in Spanish – geddit?) Chardonnay Reserve 2015 at only R340 instead of R396.

On Valentine’s evening the Avontuur Restaurant is planning a romantic Valentine’s dinner featuring their usual a-la-carte menu with a few sexy new additions just for the evening,  on the blackboard.  Bookings will fill up very quickly so do make a point of booking asap at +27 21 855-4296 or openhand@polka.co.za

Cruise winner announced – Congratulations!

Congratulations to Sharon van Aswegen who’s won the trip of a lifetime with MSC Cruises to the Portuguese Islands.

Thanks to everyone who entered via our online wine shop.  You might not have won the big one, but we are sure you will enjoy your Avontuur wine in any case!

We hope to see you soon at the Estate.

Sweet Treats Pairing a Winner this Summer

Although the straight-forward enjoyment of Avontuur Estate’s award-winning wines will always be top of the list at this family-owned wine and stud farm, the team in the tasting room love to spice up the experience by offering a different wine & taste sensation monthly.

With Summer now in full swing, we’re cooling down with our “Sweet Treats” tasting featuring nougat, Turkish delight and fudge paired with four ice cold wines, including the MCC Brut.

The pairing is self-guided with assistance from our tasting room staff, and costs R60 pp.  The duration is around 30 minutes and its huge fun to do with other wine loving friends to compare your favourites– and not-so-favourites.

Bookings are not needed for individuals and small groups, but for 6+ guests it’s recommended that you book beforehand to ensure the smooth running of the tasting.

For more info or to book contact Ella or Marcelle in the tasting room at winery@avontuurestate.co.za or +27 21 855-3450.

Grab the perfect wine gift now!

We’ve had fun putting together some gifts for him and her, for a group of friends who prefer an “experience” to another dust-gatherer, and for uncle Johnny who just loves red wine!  All from our tasting room at the Estate right now.   Scroll down to see more!

It’s all about Pinotage & Macarons ….

We’re giving Pinotage Day a good bash on Saturday, 8 October when you can taste our interpretation of our national grape for free in the tasting room.  Or grab a Braai Kit worth R500 containing two bottles of Pinotage for Pinotage week only. This is your chance to combine two of SA’s favourite pastimes in one go!

For a more international flavour join us for our Macarons & Wine Pairing from 17-31 October only in the tasting room @ R60 pp.  Four wines and Four macaron flavours have been paired and we’d love to hear what you think.

Last but not least we’ve got only a few cases of our Minelli Pinot Noir Reserve 2011 left, and we’re offering a special deal on a 2-pack at only R280 this month.  Usual price R360. So, if you’re into Burgundy, this is your chance to indulge at a good price.
