Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm, situated next to the wine estate at the foot of the Helderberg mountain, has always strived towards the "quality not quantity" motto. It was established in the late 1980s by the late Tony Taberer and his dream and passion will continue. Avontuur now has a superb broodmare band from around the world, and is continually upgrading and only using leading sires.
Our young stock is sold annually at the National Yearling Sales in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town and the Equimark sale at Spier near Cape Town during April and May.
Home to European sprinter VAR, who covered many mares during 2005 & 2006, his first crop of foals had been really well received by the breeding fraternity. We look forward to the 2008 sales season when his first yearlings will come up for auction.
