What you don’t know about success, our topic for November 2017 with Chris Van Rooyen.

Probably one of the most documented topics of the modern era is
“How to be successful”.
One cannot pass a bookstore or browse the Internet without crossing the path of some expert waxing away about how to be a success in life, health, business, career, faith, etc. The list is seemingly endless and we are pounded with thousands of hypotheses viewed from multiple perspectives.
Despite this plethora of information we still find the vast majority of people falling significantly short of the success they so ardently set out to achieve. Why?
Where I cannot profess to have all the answers to ‘success’, I have over the years observed three glaring non-negotiable truths that will take you to the pinnacle of any dream you may pursue. But, you may not like these truths. Why? Because they do not offer a quick fix or a smooth ride. But they do offer an absolute guarantee.

Chris van Rooyen
Coach/Facilitator/Speaker/Thinker

I began my career in the Advertising/Marketing Industries. This career channel led me to being Creative Director, Marketing Strategist, specialist in consumer behaviour, Director and Owner of numerous companies from Online Resource Management to Marketing Consulting and Coaching. I am currently the owner of The Business Gym, a Business Training/Coaching initiative.
I am blessed with the Creative Curse. That simply means I cannot look at anything as a static state, but always see things in terms of their possibilities. I see the change potential in just about everything. As Creative Director for numerous International Advertising Agencies my background has led me down a path of thinking differently and thereby identifying how, through simple but dedicated changes, people and situations can be improved dramatically. This aptitude I apply to my work, to the people I deal with and help, to my family life and to my personal life.
I have always had a fascination for the miracles and anomalies that surround human behaviour. We, the human race, are profoundly influenced by our perceptions of life, and in many cases it can affect our very being, resulting in a contented life balance or extreme emotional imbalance. Our response to all things is influenced enormously by our life attitude and it always amazes me how much we can control it to our benefit, or how it can control us to our detriment.

7 Years in a coma. Dr Kobus Du Toit’s story of waking up and uncovering the significance of his story.

WAKING UP”
7 Years in a coma. Dr Kobus Du Toit’s story of waking up and uncovering the significance of his story. ‘
Have you ever booked yourself into a hospital to undergo a life quality improvement procedure with the expectation of a good outcome, only to recover from your ordeal 7 years later?

At the age of 45, I was married for 23 years, the father of 4 children of respectively 9, 11, 12 and 14 and the sole breadwinner of my family of 6. I’d reached the top of the ladder in my career as CEO within a corporate banking group when I entered the hospital on 16 October 2000 with exactly the same expectation of a good outcome, just as you would do.

However, for me things took a turn for the worst and what was supposed to be a life quality improvement procedure turned into a complete disaster which resulted in a dramatic drop in life quality and an intense combat for recovery while I was left without bladder and colon control, a non-functioning prostrate as well as a partly paralyzed right leg and foot.

During the 7 years, I was literally stripped from everything I previously had and nurtured – health, career, income, reserves, assets, marriage, family as well as my human dignity (the aspect that got damaged most), only to learn six valuable lessons.

Equally so, does all of us have a story to tell, although a story only reveals an objective experience – the WHAT (contents) of an experience. Unfortunately, most people are stuck in their objective experience and sadly fail to see the significance of their trauma or discomfort – the WHY behind the what. And this is exactly what my talk is about – to share my experience with audiences to help people to uncover and to understand the significance of their story.

BRING A MALE GUEST WITH YOU AND ONLY PAY FOR ONE SEAT.

‘Embracing your uniqueness – being a platypus in a world full of ducks’; our Business Club topic this April 2017

From the time we are born, we are being put into boxes of expected behaviour. The boxes encompass our whole being and almost everything we do, from the way we dress to the way we wear our hair. It is cultural, based on our sex, based on our age, based on our religion, based on who knows what else. Boxes inside boxes upon boxes, all filled with ways in which we should think and be and act.
But what would happen if you could give yourself the space to live your life, and to be who you actually are? Not this construct of other people’s thoughts, this poor shrivelled thing, cowering inside a tower of boxes, shrinking yourself to fit others’ expectations and ideas of who and what you should be, think, say and do?

Creativity in all aspects of your buisness, our Business Club theme this March

How to cultivate a creative mindset to grow all aspects of your business .
We often think of creativity only in relation to what we perceive as the “Creative Arts”. In other words, we think that being creative is only for people who pursue creative careers such as authors, artists, actors or musicians.

This is not true. We are all creative, simply by virtue of being human. And embracing your creativity will enhance your quality of life and make you a better businessperson.
Approaching challenges within your business in creative ways can be hugely helpful in getting a different perspective and being able to overcome challenges. In this presentation, Liesl van der Hoven will share her own story of how she realised she had to approach ALL aspects of her business with a creative mindset. She will also equip you with tools that you will be able to use to get your creative juices flowing in any area of your business and life.

Liesl van der Hoven has made it her mission to create toys and decor that are beautiful to look at, stimulating to creative young minds and safe and robust enough for children to play with. Her products are sold and shipped all over the world from her online shop called Fairy Caravan.
Every single Fairy Caravan product starts off as one of Liesl’s hand-drawn illustrations on paper. Her illustrations are then printed on fabric and turned into three-dimensional toys and dolls – characters that can become ‘real’ for children. Liesl also writes stories about each character she creates. She believes that these stories help children to form an emotional connection with the characters.
Liesl
Liesl has a Master’s degree in Philosophy from Stellenbosch University and has also studied Graphic Design and completed several courses in children’s book illustration.
She firmly believes that all humans are creative and that we need to nurture this quality – especially in children – as we need creativity to navigate the ever-changing world we live in.

Karl Smith at Avontuur Estate Restaurant

Karl Smith was once again greeted by a full house when he visited the restaurant. His topic on ‘Getting more clients – Falling in love with Marketing and selling’ was divided into a five part exercise to help networkers understand the secrets of  marketing and selling. Statements such as ‘marketing is getting the phone to ring, and sales is what you do once you answer the phone’ were gems for all concerned.

His practical approach, dynamic presentation, up to date information and engaging manner is what brings networkers old and new to Avontuur.

We look forward to putting what we have learnt into practise and reporting back in 2014.

For more info on the Breakfast club call us on 021 855 4296.

Membership is free.

Open to all interested individuals and business people.
