The restaurant is decorated in an eclectic mix of old and new and has a warm inviting atmosphere. The sun drenched terrace with its vine draped pagodas, has spectacular views of the paddocks, vines and Table Mountain and is popular in summer. In winter a cozy fire welcomes our guests.
The a la carte menu offers a mouthwatering selection. Indulge your senses with a hearty breakfast selection enjoyed in a relaxed atmosphere. Champagne breakfasts are ever popular.
The lunch menu, bursting with flavor, boasts specialties such as the duck with a piquant Van der Hum sauce, matured Fillet of Beef and fish with a Saffron Veloutè. Lighter options put emphasis on organic and local produce, where salads, sandwiches and quiches appeal to the health conscious. Delectable desserts will linger in the mind long after the meal especially if savored with the farms 5 or 10 year pot stilled brandy.
The emphasis at Avontuur is on unhurried meals in the company of good friends without compromising service.
Fireside dinners boasts a menu that changes monthly where the chefs Zunia and Melanie, ring the changes by using seasonal ingredients.
The estate restaurant is the perfect corporate and function venue, specialising in small, intimate occasions.
Teambuilding functions can be arranged and are highly individual occasions and always a lot of fun.
The Restaurant is open from 9h00 to 17h00, Monday to Friday and from 9h00 to 16h00 on Saturdays & Sundays. Booking is essential.

| Everyone seems to be tightening their belts this winter and with that in mind Avontuur Estate between Stellenbosch and Somerset West decided to offer guests a very special trio of “deals” guaranteed not the break the bank! |
The popular restaurant on the Estate is open for breakfast and lunch daily and offers well-priced, beautifully presented meals in front of the fireplace in winter and outside on the terrace in Summer. It was recently decided to open for dinner as well on Wednesday and Friday evenings. “We received so many requests to stay open at night over the last year that we decided to give our regulars what they requested,”said Melanie Palteglou, one of the chef/owners of the venue.
“The gamble paid off and our dinners have definitely helped to combat the traditional slow-down during the winter months. To add to our dinner deals, we’re now offering an “early-bird” dinner which is perfectly planned to fit that little gap between work and curling up with a good book in front of the fireplace at home,”she continues.
So, join us on Wednesdays and Fridays, strictly between 17h30 and 18h30 for a warming fire-side supper at R85 for 2 courses and R105 for 3 courses. Certain conditions apply, but overall, this is one of the best deals in the winelands this winter! |

Avontuur Estate, which lies on the Helderberg Wine Route between Stellenbosch and Somerset West, has a full programme planned for the Festive Season. Apart from the tasting room, which is open daily and offers tastings of the Estate’s wines by qualified and enthusiastic staff, the well-known and popular Estate Restaurant is planning an exciting programme to highlight great food and wine.
From November, the restaurant which is usually open daily only for breakfast and lunch, will offer a fine dining experience as well on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. The a la carte menu will feature well-loved dishes from the daily menu as well as seasonal specials. “There are few things more pleasant than sitting on our terrace on a balmy Summer evening, looking out over False Bay and the Helderberg, and enjoying stunning food and great wine,” says Zunia Boucher-Myers, one of the owner-chefs of the Restaurant.
The Tasting Room is offering patrons a delectable South African cheese platter daily at R75 per couple. This can be ordered between 15h00-17h00 and can be enjoyed out on the terrace with a bottle of wine or two. “We often have visitors in the late afternoon who want to sit outside and relax after a busy day. We have a stunning view over the Helderberg and False Bay and the cheese platters offer them the opportunity to enjoy something light but classy, with a bottle of Avontuur’s best,” says Pieter Myburgh, one of the tasting room managers.
Saturday, 22 November promises to be an evening with a difference when the sounds of Pepe dos Santos, well-known Portuguese musician and singer, will ensure a romantic evening under the stars on the terrace at Avontuur. A lavish menu of southern mediterranean food, with a strong Portuguese influence will round off the evening. Avontuur’s wines will feature with a complimentary tasting for all guests on arrival, and more wine flowing throughout the evening will guarantee a festive vibe!
Monday, 15 December gives visitors the chance to live out their eighties fantasies with the “Mamma Mia” evening, featuring Abba music and gear, combined with OTT food & enough wine making it difficult to fit into those bell-bottoms! (Luckily, the next day is a public holiday!)
For the first time ever, the restaurant is offering a Christmas Eve dinner on Wednesday, 24 December with traditional Xmas culinary favourites adapted to South African tastes, combined once again with the Estate’s wines. “We want to underbook the venue so that one doesn’t end up squashed into a corner as often happens at these events The menu will lean towards dishes suited to our warm climate but with a definite nod towards tradition”says Zunia Boucher-Myers.
